Animas City Mountain Fire Mitigation On Hold
(2007-10-19)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: A controversial fire mitigation plan for Animas City Mountain, North of Durango, has been put on hold.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports:

VICTOR: The fuel mitigation program first proposed in May was to have begun this month.
However, enough input and concern about the project on the highly popular area from 62 individuals and groups, has prompted the BLM to take a closer look through a full Environmental Assessment.
Public Lands Office Spokeswoman Ann Bond says a Draft Environmental Assessment should be completed and released in early January.
BOND: IT WILL HAVE ALTERNATIVES OF DIFFERENT WAYS TO HANDLE THE FIRE MITIGATION ON ANIMAS MOUNTAIN, AND THOSE ALTERNATIVES WERE DEVELOPED IN RESPONSE TO THE CONCERNS AND ISSUES THAT PEOPLE BROUGHT UP DURING OUR EARLIER PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD.
That would trigger another round of public input.
A final decision on the project would then probably come next spring or summer, but there's no new target on when the Animas City mountain mitigation program ould begin.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
