Conference Center Yanked
(ksut) - Voters in Durango won't decide after all, this November, on a 150-percent hike in the lodger's tax to fund a possible Conference Center.
Supporters of the increase in the tax, from 2 to 5 percent, withdrew their request Monday, before city council could consider a staff reccomendation to deny the request on Tuesday.
Proponents had planned to use part of the tax increase, which is paid by those staying in local hotels and motels, to help fund a proposed 10-to-13 million dollar conference center they hoped to build.
