Millions in Fed $$$ to Archuleta, La Plata Countys
(2007-08-21)
(ksut) -
HOST LEAD: Millions of dollars in federal grants flowed to Archuleta and La Plata Counties today/Tuesday.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports.

VICTOR: Congressman John Salazar had the biggest news, word of a five and a quarter million dollar grant for cash starved Archuleta County, for a new taxiway at Stevens Field airport in Pagosa Springs.
Archuleta County also received a nearly 8-thousand dollar USDA Rural Development Grant earlier in the day to help pay for a new 800-megahertz emergency radio system.
Then in the afternoon, Colorado USDA Rural Development Director Mike Bennett awarded 25-thousand dollars to The Commons.
That's a not for profit educational cooperative at the old Federal Building at 7th and Camino Del Rio.
Paulette Church is one of those pushing the nearly 5-million dollar purchase and renovation of the building for the Adult Education Center, which she directs, and a dozen other groups.
CHURCH: WE'LL BE MOVING IN IN ABOUT ANOTHER WEEK. OTHER NON PROFITS ARE STARTING TO MOVE IN ALMOST ON A WEEKLY BASIS AFTER THAT SO REALLY THE BUILDING WILL BE FULLY OCCUPIED BY OCTOBER, WHICH IS REALLY EXCITING.
Church says the USDA grant they've received will be used to furnish common areas, at The Commons.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
