Surprise In Your Electric Bill
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: Customers of LaPlata Electric will have a pleasant surprise in their bills next month.
KSUT's Victor Locke Reports.

VICTOR: LPEA will refund 2-million dollars to customers who have had an account for at least one year.
The Patronge Capital Credits, as they are known, are given to members of the cooperative when financial times are good and the utility meets certain equity requirements.
The money represents payments made by customers above the cost of prividing service.
That money is placed into an account then used along with borrowed funds to finance improvements, reducing interest costs for LPEA.
Those savings and the margins build member equity, which leads to the refunds every so often.
Most of the refunds will appear as a credit on customers electric bills in August.
Former customers will receive a check.
LPEA has paid out 25-million dollars in credits since 1939, most of it since 1990.
