La Plata County Manager Michael Scannell Resigns
(2007-07-10)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: La Plata County Government is looking for a new County Manager.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports.

VICTOR: Just four weeks after Durango city manager Bob Ledger announced his resignation after 23 years, La Plata County Manager Michael Scannell has announced he's resigning, effective September 4th.
Scannell says it's something he's been thinking about for a long time.
SCANNELL: IT'S BEEN WONDERFUL ACTUALLY, I'VE BEEN BLESSED WITH A GOOD CAREER OF 29 YEARS AND MY WIFE AND FAMILY HAVE STOOD BY ME FOR THE DURATION AND THAT MADE A LOT OF IT POSSIBLE AND INTERESTING ASSIGNMENTS, INTERESTING ISSUES, INTERESTING PEOPLE, I WOULDN'T CHANGE IT AT ALL.
Scannell says he wants to spend more time with family.
And he says he'll leave any judgement as to his effectiveness during 8 years as La Plata county manager, up to the public.
But his performance won praise from County Commission Chairman Wally White, who says an executive search firm will be employed to look for his successor.
Assistant County Manager Joanne Spina is expected to be named by the commissioners as interim manaager.
And she says she is interested in succeeding Scannell and might seek the position.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
