Wildfire In SW La Plata County Forces Evacuations

(ksut) - Fire burned an estimated 1-thousand acres on the Fort Lewis Mesa, in Southwest La Plata County yesterday afternoon.
According to published reports, the wind whipped blaze broke out shortly before 3pm near county roads 100, 113, and 114.
It destroyed at least one home and forced evacuations of ten others.
Firefighters were expected to remain on the scene throughout the night and continue extinguishing the blaze today.
There have been no reports of any injuries.
The Southwest Colorado Chapter of the American Red Cross has set up a shelter at Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School, to assist Evacuees of the fire.
They are providing food, clothing, emergency shelter, medications, mental health support and assistance in contacting friends and loved ones.
Again, the Red Cross shelter is located at Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School.
