New Fire Chief Tabbed for Durango Fire & Rescue
(2007-05-24)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: The Durango Fire and Rescue Authority has a new Chief.
KSUT's Victor Locke Reports.

VICTOR: After a nationwide search and interviews with 25 candidates, the Durango Fire and Rescue District's Board has opted to select someone from its own ranks to succeed DFRD's first ever Chief Mike Dunaway who is retiring.
Present Deputy Chief of Support Dan Noonan will assume the chief's post.
NOONAN: I'M VERY HUMBLED THAT THE BOARD AND THE DEPARTMENT HAS ALLOWED ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE WITH THEM THE LEADERSHIP OF THIS ORGANIZATION.
He admits to facing two challenges.
First, morphing multiple agencies that comprise DFRA into a single Fire Protection District.
NOONAN: THE FUNDING ISSUE OF COURSE WOULD BE THE SECOND COMPONENT. WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING A SURVEY THAT WE CAN DETERMINE THE BEST WAY OF FUNDING THE ORGANIZATION.
Noonan began his career as a volunteer with Animas Valley Fire District, helped found Hermosa Cliff Fire District, served as its Chief until joining DFRA when it was created in January of 2002.
Noonan assumes the chiefs job June 29th.
From KSUT, I'm Victor Locke.
