Hotter Named LaPlata Commissioner
(2007-02-15)
(ksut) - HOST LEAD: A new La Plata County Commissioner has been selected to complete the term of resigned commissioner, Republican Bob Lieb.
KSUT's Victor Locke reports.

TATE: SO AT THIS TIME I WOULD LIKE TO ANNOUNCE THE APPOINTMENT OF OUR NEW LAPLATA COUNTY COMMISSIONER, MISS KELLIE HOTTER.
LaPlata County Republican Party chairman Ron Tate announced results of a secret ballot by the party's nine member vacancy committee, a mere 8 minutes into the Wednesday afternoon meeting.
TATE: TO THE PUBLIC IT MAY SEEM WE'RE GOING THROUGH A VERY RUSHED PROCESS, IT WAS A VERY EXTENSIVE PROCESS AND I THINK THE CANDIDATES WILL AGREE TO THAT.
The process whittled the list of candidates from six, to Kellie Hotter and Connie Imig, who says she's perfectly happy to continue as executive director of Habitat for Humanity.
IMIG: I DIDN'T DO THIS BECAUSE I HAD POLITICAL ASPIRATIONS, I DID THIS BECAUSE I FELT THAT A COMMUNITY SERVICE EFFORT WAS NEEDED (VICTOR: HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE OUTCOME?) I FEEL JUST FINE, I THINK I WOULD HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB TOO, BUT I FEEL JUST FINE.
Hotter was congratulated by Lieb and others including County Commissioner Joelle Riddle, who took office last month.
RIDDLE: AND I'M GLAD TO KNOW THAT I'M NOT THE NEWEST COUNTY COMMISSIONER NOW. I'M HAPPY TO PASS THAT ON TO YOU.
Hotter, who agreed interview process was grueling, says she's now ready to get down to work.
The lifelong La Plata County resident feels her past public service has prepared her well for the job.
HOTTER: WELL I'VE BEEN REPRESENTING LAPLATA COUNTY FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS IN A LOT OF DIFFERENT AVENUES THROUGHOUT THE STATE IN PARTICULAR CLUB 20 FOR TEN YEARS, AND THAT'S BIG. I'VE BEEN PART OF THE DIALOGUE OF LAPLATA COUNTY ISSUES FOR A LONG TIME, I'VE SAT AT THE TABLE REPRESENTING LAPLATA COUNTY, I'M JUST BRINGING IT HOME NOW. MY PRIORITY IS TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING. I HAVE A LOT OF HOMEWORK TO DO, A LOT OF CATCHING UP TO DO. I'VE GOT A GREAT RESOURCE HERE WITH ALL OF THESE PEOPLE AND I PLAN TO USE THEM. WE ALL KNOW WHAT'S ON THE DOCKET NOW, LAND USE CODE IS GOING TO BE COMING UP FAST AND FURIOUS. I THINK THAT'S A BIG ONE THAT WE NEED TO LOOK AT.
Hotter will complete the final two years of Lieb's term and says she plans to run for a full term in 2008.
You could say her selection Wednesday was the icing on the cake.
(SINGING)
A birthday cake. Hotter made it clear, she was celebrating her 29th, again.
Her first official meeting is next Tuesday.
For KSUT, Four Corner's Public Radio, I'm Victor Locke.

TAG: Hotter is to be sworn in (was sworn in) during midday ceremonies today.
