Mike Longo Trio Sting Like a Bee Mike Longo was a student of Oscar Petersons in the early 60s and played with Dizzy Gillespie from 1966 through 1973. He has developed a personal style of playing coming from a deep understanding of the principles and behaviors of African rhythm and contemporary harmony. Dizzy passed his knowledge to Mike through their close friendship, apprenticeship, and endless hours on the bandstand. The Mike Longo Trio's new CD "Sting Like a Bee" represents the freedom and growth of an art form with infinite possibilities. When the CD ends you realize that Longo's mastery of this music is born from a highly evolved understanding of it, as well as his ability to communicate joy and love to the listeners. The future of contemporary bebop is bright, and Mike Longo is one of those leading the way.
