The Curry-Del Norte Orchestra and Tsunami Swing Big Band are performing a “Pops in the Park” concert this Sunday, June 8, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Azalea Park in Brookings, Oregon. The concert program features music to please all ages. Admission is free! Bring your folding travel chair or blanket for seating and be ready to enjoy a delightful afternoon of live music
The concert will begin with the Curry-Del Norte Orchestra directed by John Webster, who has selected a fun mix of pop favorites featuring film and Broadway musical scores. Tsunami Swing, a jazz big band led by Dan Sedgwick, will then continue the entertainment with selections guaranteed to get toes tapping and feet dancing. Both the orchestra and the big band are composed of community members from Crescent City, Brookings and Gold Beach who volunteer their time and talents to bring live music opportunities to the Wild Rivers Coast.
“Pops in the Park” is one of the featured concerts of the American Music Festival (AMF), a community concert series held in Azalea Park at 1:00 pm, typically every other Sunday from June thru mid-September. From pop, big band, bluegrass, folk and Celtic to rock, swing, jazz and zydeco, AMF has something for everyone. While admission to “Pops in the Park” is free, voluntary donations are welcome and appreciated and used to support band equipment and youth music education programs in our communities.
