August Second Saturday Art Walk in Downtown Springfield
General Event Information
Event Category:
Art & Museum Exhibits
Free and open to the public
Dates and Times:
August 9, 12:00PM-5:00PM
If you're kicking yourself for missing last Friday's Art Walk, there’s good news: Second Saturday is set for noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, with 15 participating art venues in downtown Springfield. Second Saturday is a laid-back, Saturday afternoon Art Walk event for all ages that occurs monthly on the second Saturday after First Friday. Among this month's events:
• Arts & Letters features Shay Rainey’s "Video Daze: A Celebration of the Poor Image," plus their Second Saturday exclusive: a reading by the Ozarks Romance Authors. Meet and experience the works of local authors Beth Carter, Ellen Harger, Allison Merritt and Wanda Fittro.
• Fresh Gallery reprises its shows with featured artists Marian Chamberlain and April Brame, and "Impressions of the Wild," a display of animal-created artwork by critters at Dickerson Park Zoo and Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park. Live “animal artists” and their keepers will be on hand for Second Saturday!
• IdeaXFactory invites you to attend the Radical Intention Workshop: Learning with Each Other from 3 to 6 pm Saturday Aug.9. This special event, free and open to the public, is presented by the Italian open collective Radical Intention. Learning with Each Other intends to transform the workshop itself into a performative learning group experience and raise such questions as: Can the simple act of ‘gathering’ be the basis for discovering and articulating new possibilities? What makes a group work?
• Springfield Hot Glass Studio will feature live demonstrations of the glassblower’s art during Second Saturday.
Additional Second Saturday Highlights include:
• Photography by Ted Pagel and works by Alex Gonzales at Art Inspired
• "The Show Must Go On: Springfield Theaters and Entertainment Venues" at The History Museum on the Square at The Fox Theatre
• Featured artist Abi Post at Nomad
• Shelly Forbes: Consider This at Obelisk Home
• Artwork by teens from the Rare Breed Youth Drop-in Center at Park Central Branch Library
• Featured artist Diane Minge at Qdoba Mexican Grill
• Featured artist Madeline Brice at RSVPaint
• Original artwork by Gabe Tenneson and Austin Evans at Transformation Gallery & Tattoo
• Artists Dan Morris, Rebecca Burrell, Angel Brame and Sarah Hurlburt Frana at University Plaza Hotel
