A 34 year old Farmington man died Wednesday after being shot in the chest. The San Juan County Sheriff's department says Scott Burch was found lying on the ground in the 900 block of County Road 3000. Authorities believe foul play is involved.

Teen Fugitive oden Gutierrez is back in custody . San Juan County authorities say they were notified very early this morning that Gutierrez was re-captured in Albuquerque. The 17-year old was featured Saturday night on the Fox television program "America's Most Wanted". Gutierrez escaped almost two weeks ago from the San Juan County Juvenile Detention Center.

Major Drug Ring Busted in LaPlata County (2007-12-17)
A year and a half long investigation has resulted in the arrests of 23 people in the Four Corners and Mexico in connection with a major drug trafficking ring.
The Southwest Drug Task force announced the arrests today and released details about the drug trafficking ring and its local impact.
16 of the suspects are from the Four Corners area.. mostly Durango and Ignacio the remaining 7 are from Mexico.

Fire Officials say a fire at a mobile home in Kirtland early Thursday morning was intentionally set.
San Juan County Fire Investigator Chris Cardin says the fire was reported around 2 o'clock yesterday morning
When crews got to the scene about 3-quarters of the single wide mobile home was engulfed in flames
Durango ACT Scores Improve (2007-08-22)
Durango High School's average ACT composite score rose in 2007, and students continued to outscore their state and national peers, according to ACT test results released recently.
County to Survey Historical Sites (2007-08-22)
LaPlata County will soon begin a survey to identify the full range of historical sites in laPlata County.
The job is being made possible with a 94-thousand dollar grant from the Colorado Historical Fund and 32-thousand dollars from the county itself.

Growers Markets Thriving (2007-08-22)
The Farmington growers market is in full swing at Animas Park off Browning parkway.
The market organized by the Farmington Chamber of Commerce offers fresh fruits and vegetables from local growers and also offers lamb and beef
Employment Rise means Enrollment Dip (2007-08-22)
Classes began this week at schools throughout the Four Corners .
At San Juan College preliminary enrollment estimates for the fall semester show that enrollment will decline compared to similar numbers last year.
The College attributes the decline to strong working conditions in San Juan County as well as a decline in high school graduates.
"Bear Proof" Trash Cans Offered (2007-08-22)
In order to combat a recent increase of bear activity in residential neighborhoods in Durango the City will provide 60-gallon bear proof trash cans to residents upon request for an additional rental charge of 6-dollars a month.
The trash cans will be available on a first come first served basis and the city says there are limited numbers.
Residents should contact the Durango Public Works Department to request the bear proof trash cans.

A State Patrol and Durango Police checkpoint for 5 hour last Friday results in some 600 drivers being contacted by authorities.
The checkpoint was set up in the 17-hundred block of Florida Road.
Authorities say 6 drivers made obvious u-turns to avoid the checkpoint..
Sobriety tests were given to two drivers who both passed.

Sandoval Co. Deputy Arrested for DUI (2007-07-24)
A Sandoval County Sheriff's Deputy is under arrest for driving under the influence in San Juan County. It happened around 10 o'clock Friday night on U-S 64 between Farmington and Bloomfield. The San Juan County Sheriff's Department says a deputy observed 55 year old John Wiese's car weaving in his lane and pulled him over. Authorities say Wiese failed the field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of point 08, just over the legal limit.
