Breaking News: Former Aztec Mayor Mike Arnold Dies in Plane Crash From New Mexico State Police: A single engine plane crashed on take-off this morning around 11 a.m. at the Aztec Airport. The pilot, former Aztec mayor, Michael Arnold, 62 was the only occupant of the aircraft. He was pronounced dead at the scene. NTSB has been notified and is en route for an official investigation. Arnold was the current airport manager and also served as mayor of Aztec from 1998-2001 and again from 2004-2008.
