Police Hope to Make Rental Housing Safer FARMINGTON, NM (ksje) - The Farmington Police Department is promoting a new program aimed at keeping residents safer in Apartment buildings mobile home parks and other rental housing areas .
It's a cooperative effort between the police landlords and their tenants
The crime-free multi-housing program would reward property owners for making safety improvements like improved lighting and landscaping to deter crime
Farmington Police Sergeant Pat Cordell says officials would work with landlords to help screen their tenants
He says the benefit for landlords and property owners is the crime free designation for their apartment building which can attract more responsible tenants.
