Wind Whipped Fire Destroys Farmington Home
Farmington Fire Marshal Herb Veazy says the home in Westland Park was destroyed by flames late Thursday afternoon.
The blaze started from sparks made by arcing power lines, which fell into highly flammable groundcover from nearby cottonwood trees.
The flames destroyed a house on LaPuenta Place and then it jumped the San Juan River and began burning brush on the south side of the river.
6 nearby homes and a bed and breakfast were evacuated as a precaution until firefighters got the blaze under control.
Thursday afternoon's high winds helped fan the flames.
