Burn Could Send Smoke to Durango
The burn will continue in segments this summer only when weather conditions permit.
The controlled burn will be on state land overseen by Fort Lewis College about 15 miles southwest of Durango in the vicinity of the Fort Lewis Bull Testing Station south of Hesperus on Colorado 170.
From New Mexico the burn area is about 20 miles north of
the Colorado/New Mexico border about one-quarter mile to the east of Colorado 170.
Some from the burn could find it's way into Durango.
The controlled burn is intended to be along the ground without damage to live trees.
The burn area contains Ponderosa pine with much of the ground covered with buildups of dry pine needles dead trees limbs . pine cones and other hazardous fuels material that the B-L-M says need to be reduced.

The Bureau of Land Management is planning a controlled burn on 18-hundred acres southwest of Durango this month.The burn will continue in segments this summer only when weather conditions permit.
