The fire chief of Los Alamos County says some 30 structures have burned, although he is not saying how many are homes. The 44,000-acre Las Conchas fire is zero-percent contained and sits just to the west and southwest of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. KSFR's Charles Maynard reports from a press conference where the chief assesses the risk to the public and to the Los Alamos lab. Listen.

Santa Fe National Forest officials have released their first map of the Las Conchas fire. Click the image to the right. Earlier, KSFR published a map by a retired fire manager who lives in South Dakota.
