Santa Fe school board candidates position themselves (Listen again)
On At Noon, KSFR's midday newshour
(KSFR) -
Candidates for Santa Fe's school board are on different sides of the issue when it comes to closing small schools and consolidating them into bigger units. Eight candidates are running for three seats on the school board. At this week's candidates forum, just one candidate said she would prefer to see the Acequia Madre School closed. She's the incumbent school board member from District 1, Mary Ellen Gonzales. She has several weeks left in office and says she will cast a vote to close the small school at next Tuesday's board meeting. ***

These are the candidates running for office:

District 1: Incumbent Mary Ellen Gonzales, challengers Steven Carillo, Carl Luff and Alexis Lotero - although Lotero may be reconsidering.

District 2: Melissa Coleman, Donado "Cove" Coviello and Glenn Wikle

District 4: Linda Trujillo

The candidates gathered for the last full forum before the February 1st elections. It was sponsored by the Santa Fe County League of Women Voters. KSFR has these excerpts from that forum. More to come next week.
