How far should the authorities go in taking blood samples from people who are arrested? One of Gov. Martinez' first acts in office was to announce that she'll ask lawmakers to expand the law about sampling to include taking DNA samples from anyone arrested on any felony charge. We spoke with Peter Simonson of the ACLU to get his take on the issue. ***

We also asked a forensic DNA expert to explain what it means, to look for 13 genetic markers in a blood sample. He's Dr. Mike Spence, a Ph.D. microbiologist with a forensic consulting service in Las Cruces.
