Crime lab move first Martinez casualty? (Listen again)
(2010-12-29)
(KSFR) -
New Mexico Public Safety Secretary John Denko isn't backing down from an effort to move the state's DNA laboratory. Denko says another roadblock has been put up by the city of Albuquerque and he doesn't know how long it will take to move the
lab to department headquarters in Santa Fe. The New Mexico Supreme Court earlier this week cleared the way for the lab's move from Albuquerque, where it has been run by Albuquerque police for the past decade. Denko argues the move will save money. He says he conducted an audit to prove it.

Denko, a Demoract who leaves his post when Republican Gov. Susanta Martinez takes office, explained why the state attorney general opposed his proposal and why he wanted to move the crime lab in the first place.
