New Mexico Gas backs wireless technology (Listen again)
(2010-08-11)
(KSFR) -
-- As broadcast on KSFR's At Noon midday news program:

Time was when a usually friendly person would make his or her way somewhere around your house, find the electric meter and the gas meter and take a reading. Things are changing. Pretty soon that person will read only your electric meter. That's because gas meter readings will be taken in a vehicle driving slowly down the street gathering the data from your house and the house across the street, automatically. New Mexico Gas Company has already begun to install tiny, wireless radio transmitters on meters around Santa Fe and throughout central New Mexico. Those transmitters will wirelessly transmit information to the vehicle and a couple of weeks later, you'll get the bill. Tom Domme is a vice president with New Mexico Gas.
