Commentary: State lawmakers couldn't get other things done, either (Podcast)
(2010-02-18)
(KSFR) -

-- Thirty days and $5 million of taxpayer money after they began, New Mexico lawmakers have gone home for a few days without completing their primary job. The governor has already called them back into special session next week.

State law requires that 30 days sessions of the legislature be devoted to the state budget. All the budget details were left until the final day, when leaders of the senate and the house agreed there was no time left to reach a deal. Among the bills that did not pass during the session is one that would have required out-of-state corporations to pay New Mexico income tax.

KSFR News Director Bill Dupuy offers a commentary. Listen above.
