Santa Fe hospital could lose funds if Value measures are used (Podcast)
(2009-09-17)
(KSFR) -

-- From KSFR's Sept. 17 At Noon midday report:

As the debate in Washington continues over healthcare reform, the idea of controlling the costs of care keeps coming up. Those costs have risen dramatically and most of the cost of healthcare is in hospital care.

How long will it be before hospitals are reimbursed based on not just the quality but the overall Value of their services? It may not be long at all. And New Mexico hospitals, including Christus St. Vincent in Santa Fe, may find large chunks of their Medicare, Medicaid and maybe even private insurance reimbursements shrinking. Hal Andrews is CEO of Data Advantage, an analytics firm that's been evaluating hospitals against a set of new metrics created to determine how true Value is delivered.
