SANTA FE
(KSFR) -
-- On today's midday report: *** State lawmakers haven't solved New Mexico's budget woes yet. But they are taking big steps on a range of different fronts. We'll talk with a Santa Fe legislator about his oil and gas drilling bill. And we'll hear from an Albuquerque lawmaker about her plans to webcast her committee meetings. *** A sad tale comes out of Gaza where a young woman known to many Santa Feans has died in the shelling. *** And we'll go backstage with some of the people who are behind a new run at the Santa Fe Playhouse.
Listen to the complete program above or by segment below.
State lawmakers take up again on Monday after a Friday recess. And things are moving fast. The newly elected state representative from Santa Fe, Brian Egolf, has introduced a bill that could take some of the surprise out of an oil or gas developer showing up, ready to drill on someone's property.
Another state representative has taken up the issue of webcasting from the Round House. Some state lawmakers balked at live webcasting of the full House and Senate proceedings, even though the legislature OK'ed the idea and appropriated money for it a couple of years ago. Rep. Janice Arnold-Jones from Albuquerque is a member of the Tax and Revenue Committee and she says she's going to plug in a webcam so you, and I and everyone else can see what's happening when that committee meets.
A number of Santa Feans will remember a young Palestinian girl who attended a summer peace camp here in 2003. She was among a group of Palestinian and Israeli girls who took part in a program that's conducted every year by a local group named Creativity for Peace. The girl turned 20 not long ago. Now, the young woman named Besson is dead along with two of her siblings, the victims of the shelling on their family homes in Gaza. KSFR's Marguerite Kearns reports.
Sounds glamorous and exicting. And in many ways it is. But the process of writing plays, directing plays and acting in them can be tough as nails. KSFR's Dan Gerrity has this about a new run at the Santa Fe Playhouse.
