Sen. Pete Domenici asks to use campaign funds for legal defense (Podcast)
The nonprofit Center for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington says they have gotten a copy of Domenici's letter to the Federal Election Commmission, asking for the money.
Melanie Sloan is head of the Ethics Center. She says she believes it wrong for campaign contributions to be used for legal defenses. And she says this is the first time a member of congress has asked for campaign money to pay for the legal defense of staff members as well.
Sloan says Domenici is being investigated by the senate ethics committee for making a political phone call to David Iglesias who was the federal prosecutor in New Mexico at the time. David Iglesias lost his job not long after. © Copyright 2013, KSFR
