Governor signs bill to raise high school grad requirements
(2007-04-05)
(KSFR) - Governor Richardson has signed into law tougher high school graduation requirements and a higher legal dropout age. The measure was among a batch of bills the governor signed ahead of tomorrow's deadline to act on legislation passed during the 60-day session that ended March 17th. Beginning with pupils who enter ninth grade in 2009, students will have to have at least 24 units to graduate -- it's 23 now. And more units of math and lab science will be required. One of those units would have to be at the level of Algebra Two or higher, unless a student's parent gave permission for a lesser unit instead. The dropout age also rises from 17 to 18, under the new law. © Copyright 2013, KSFR
