Second group asks for investigation of governor's political ad
The statewide immigrant rights group Somos un Pueblo Unido is also asking the state Attorney General and the Secretary of State to investigate the use of gubernatorial campaign funds to pay for a political radio ad on behalf of Gov. Susana Martinez.
KSFR News filed a separate inquiry with the Attorney General's office earlier.
Both Somos and KSFR question whether unspent election-campaign funds can be used for sponsoring a political ad on behalf of the governor's effort to influence legislation.
The ad asks voters to contact their legislators to urge them to vote "up or down" on the question of drivers licenses for foreign nationals. The body of the ad says it is paid for by Anna Emmerick-Biad, treasurer of the governor's campaign committee.
McCleskey Media Strategies is thought to have placed the ad on radio stations. The firm is operated by Martinez strategist Jay McClesky.
KSFR asked the governor's office for confirmation about the use of campaign funds to support the add.
Emmerick-Biad, McCleskey and the governor's spokesman have not responded to KSFR's calls for comment.
