"Militarization of Borders, Criminalization and Forced Disappearances of Migrants in Transit in Mexico".
Camilo Perez Bustillo is Research Professor at Autonomous University of Mexico City and Visiting Professor in the Government Department at NMSU
Profesor Perez Bustillo, will discuss his research in Mexico regarding the case of the San Fernando Massacre (72 migrants in transit killed from 5 countries in Tamaulipas in August 2010), and its implications, within the framework of recent hearings organized by the Permanent Peoples Tribunal, the most widely recognized successor to the Russell Tribunal of the 1960`s and 1970īs. The hearings focused on systematic human rights violations against both migrants in transit and migrants of Mexican origin, and related issues regarding the rights of refugees and victims of forced displacement. Many of these migrants have their origins in indigenous communities and peoples in Mexico, Central America, and the Andean region.
