CODOFIL will show the 1971 documentary, ‘L’Acadie, l’Acadie?!?’ at Cité des Arts to be followed by an open discussion on franco-responsabilité, linguistic rights and French-language activism with key actors of the local Francophone movement.

Filmed in Moncton, New Brunswick in the late 1960s, ‘L’Acadie, l’Acadie?!?’ follows a group of student protestors who fight for language equality in their community, of which the population is 40 percent French-speaking, but suffers nonetheless from linguistic prejudice and governmental injustices.

The movie showing and discussion to follow is free and open to the public and will begin at 6:30 pm at Cité des Arts, located at 109 Vine Street in downtown Lafayette. Light refreshments will be served. As the French language is every Louisianan’s birth right, CODOFIL encourages all who speak French or value its impact on the state to attend.
