One of the oldest churches in Lafayette celebrated its 75th birthday recently, and members of its congregation noted how it led in the fight for religious equality. It took the foresight and determination of one bishop and the response of the papacy to set the cornerstone for the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and give black Catholics in Lafayette a place to worship freely.
Lafayette's younger generation have grown up listening to CDs and MP3s, but the "old-school listening" to vinyl albums has a special appeal. Walt Broussard of Walt's Record Shop in Lafayette found that his hobby has helped build the craze.
