RadioActive! June 2 Gay Liberation Front
(2010-06-03)
SALT LAKE CITY, UT
(krcl) -
"2,4, 6, 8, Smash the Church, Smash the State!" That was the rallying cry of the radical Gay Liberation Front as they took to the streets and raised a ruckus in the glory days of the 60's and 70's. Beyond single-issue gay politics, the GLF and several other organizations dreamed of a world of gender equality, wealth redistribution, and an end to militarism and war. They believed they could transform the world. Tommi Avicolli Mecca was a member and early organizer in the GLF. His new anthology, Smash the Church, Smash the State: The Early Years of Gay Liberation unites the many revolutionary voices of the era. In the latter half of the show, we welcome Renae Widdison, David Alder and Thomas Risk, to respresent the next generation of queer activism. To celebrate Pride, we discuss "Our History, Our Future."
