(wuwm) - Organic beef makes up about one-tenth of 1% of all beef sold in the United States. But Michael Levine says demand is increasing noticeably. He's president of the Organic Meat Company, a division of Organic Valley. The cooperative is based in La Farge, Wisconsin. Levine says consumer interest in organic beef grew when mad cow disease hit the U.S. last December. Cattle raised organically are never fed animal by-products that could carry the disease.
