New Poll Sheds Light, Questions on Key Races
SEATTLE, WA
(KPLU) -
A new poll is shedding some light on how voters are reacting to key issues and races. University of Washington researchers released the results of a survey on the two statewide ballot measures, as well as the King County executive and Seattle mayor's race.
The Washington Poll began surveying voters just as ballots hit mailboxes two weeks ago. It wrapped up on Monday. Results show Referendum 71, the domestic partnership measure, nearly 20 points ahead with just 5% undecided.
Less clear is Tim Eyman's Initiative 1033, which seeks to cap public revenues. It trails by 9 points. But 10% of voters say they're undecided, and with a margin of error at 3.6%, this could be pretty close ballot.
More than 700 voters weighed in on the two statewide measures. Additional polls surveyed voters in Seattle and King County.
In the race for Seattle mayor, Joe Mallahan leads Mike McGinn by 8 points. There's little comfort in the numbers, because 19% say they are still undecided. In the past week, though, there's been a favorable trend for Mallahan. That came after McGinn said he'd reluctantly go along with the plan to replace the Alaskan Way viaduct with a deep-bore tunnel. McGinn won the primary on an anti-tunnel platform.
The race for King County executive has Dow Constantine outpolling Susan Hutchison by 15 percentage points. But this race as well shows a high percentage (19%) of people undecided, with a long week to go before election day. Gary Davis, KPLU News.
