Flu Vaccine in Pharmacies in King County
SEATTLE
(KPLU) -
King County is trying a new way of getting the H1N1 swine flu vaccine out to those who need it most: put it in the neighborhood pharmacy. A small group of people is gathered at the Bartell's on Rainier Ave. S. Nearby resident Jim Worth is waiting in line in front of the pharmacy window. He says both he and his wife need the vaccine ...
" ... because we have a six-month-old, and six months or younger cannot be vaccinated. So we just want to take the precaution."
When King County health officials announced they'd set aside 15,000 doses of the vaccine to be distributed at 44 pharmacies, Worth hopped online and found his neighborhood drugstore was on the list.
Supplies of the swine flu vaccine still fall far short of the demand, so those most vulnerable are being given priority. That includes pregnant women, people between 6 months and 24 years old, those with chronic health conditions or weakened immune systems, and health care workers.
People seeking the vaccine at a pharmacy will have to fill out a screening questionnaire to make sure they're in one of the priority groups.
