Soccer Mania This Sunday
(2009-06-26)
(KPLU) - Web Text:

Soccer fans have a lot to look forward to this weekend. In addition to the Sounders game against Colorado here, the U.S. team is facing off with Brazil in the Confederations Cup final - all on Sunday.
Local sports bars are looking forward to the action.

Sam Hassan owns the All Nations Soccer Bar in North Seattle. He's also a youth coach and Executive Director of the local All Nations Cup tournament. He brings his Brazilian passion to the game.
"It's more than a sport for us. It's a way of life," Hassan says. "And that's the spirit of our bar. It's about everything that's related to soccer somehow."

He says they'll serve a special brunch and split screens between the Sounders match and the Confederations Cup, depending on what patrons want. But with the US' surprise defeat of Spain on Wednesday, the FIFA match is likely to be the bigger draw.

"You don't even have to be a soccer fan. Having the United States playing in the final against Brazil, the strongest soccer team in the world in soccer history, it's a huge feat," Hassan says. "This is something that even if you don't like soccer, you should be watching and cheering for the U.S."

Hassan will root for his native Brazil. But his grandkids want the US to win. The match takes place in South Africa, the venue for next year's world cup. It starts at 11:30 Sunday morning.
