King County Parks Facing Closure
With King County facing a $56 million dollar budget shortfall, Triplett says it makes more sense to close parks than further cut law enforcement or social services. He says it's possible that cities, school districts or non profit groups could step forward to save the parks. The park land will be given away with the condition that it remain public space.
But if no one steps forward, Triplett says, "we'll be fencing off the playground equipment and shutting down the restrooms" in the parks.
Large county regional parks, including Marymoor, are not on the closure list.
