Flood Warning Center Opens in King County
(2009-10-26)
(KPLU) - An intense rainfall has observers at King County's Flood Warning Center keeping an eye on the Tolt and Snoqualmie Rivers. After two inches of rain or more fell on the mountains in 12 hours, the Flood Warning Center describes the Tolt and Snoqualmie as being at a Phase Two flood alert level. King County's Doug Williams says that could mean minor flooding in some low-lying areas where levies might be lower.

Williams says the current rainfall isn't expected to cause any flooding in the Green River Valley. That's where the weakened condition of the Howard Hanson Dam has raised concerns about flooding. The Flood Warning Center will continue to monitor the rivers as long as they remain above flood alert thresholds. Forecasts call for the rain to lighten over the next few days.
