King County Executive Race: Susan Hutchison SEATTLE, WA (KPLU) - You saw her on TV delivering the news for 21 years. Now she's in your voter's guide. Former KIRO News Anchor, Susan Hutchison wants to be the new King County Executive. She says the county needs to move from a steak diet to meatloaf. The people running King County would probably argue with Susan Hutchison's suggestion that the government has a steak diet at the moment. Still, Hutchison says she sees fat. Lots of it. Her knife is ready to trim.

"We have six agencies that serve the homeless and addicted. Six different agencies which also have leadership or directors and support staff. If we could combine them into one we can diminish our overhead and get the tax money to the people who need it."

Right now, Hutchison is dealing with an awkward distraction.Documents relating to an age discrimination lawsuit she filed against KIRO are now unsealed. The hundreds of pages reveal a bumpy relationship between Hutchison and her bosses. One example involves her calling in sick on the 4th of July, when she was spotted vacationing in Oregon with her family. These papers wouldn't be very relevant if Hutchison didn't tout her time at KIRO as helping to prepare her for elected office. In a released a video taped statement Hutchison says a confidentiality agreement prevents her from talking about the case. However Hutchison does offer up this bit of information.

"The lead attorney for KIRO TV, the author of these documents, is now supporting me for King County Executive."

Since leaving KIRO Hutchison has been very, very busy. She has her own consulting business. She is the executive director for the Charles Simonyi Fund for the arts and sciences which among other things, supports the work of atheist Richard Dawkins. She's also served on the board of the Discovery Institute, which promotes the idea of intelligent design. The varied resume makes it hard to pidgin hole Hutchison, which is exactly how she wants to be perceived. JW KPLU News Seattle.
