Facebook Not Just for Kids
The Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling teamed up with the Washington State Gambling Commission to launch a public service campaign about a fictional character named Zander.
AD EXCERPT: "If math to you is adding up your poker hand, then you might be a Zander Zander jokes may be funny. Underage casino gambling isn't. You get a $125 ticket, community service, and you forfeit your winnings. Don't be a Zander "
In addition to broadcasting the ad on youth radio stations, they put it on Youtube and Facebook. Kacie McKinney is an advisor at JayRay in Tacoma, which created the campaign to help spread awareness of the new law among kids and their parents. She says they were surprised to reach twice as many adults on Facebook as young people.
"The adult demographic has grown by 300 percent over the last year. So it's huge. And a lot of adults are joining and using it."
And she says only adults have clicked through and signed up to become fans of the Facebook campaign.
Activity has been much higher during the week than on weekends and holidays, indicating perhaps that checking Facebook is become as routine as checking your email.
