KPLU Local News
Wet Enough For Ya?
Since News Year's, it's rained every day except one. And in some places, we've had up to twice the average rainfall for this time of year.
"So far, we're about five inches of rain here in Seattle," says Mike McFarland with the National Weather Service. "So, if it stopped raining now, we'd have our monthly precip."
All that rain has led to flood watches on most local rivers. Still, the overall rainfall isn't extreme and flooding has been relatively minor. In fact, the Army Corps of Engineers says there's even been less rain than normal at the weakened Howard Hanson Dam, so there's no threat of flooding along the Green River.
That said, the rain was enough to trigger a landslide that's blocked the westbound lanes of Highway 18 in Auburn.
Bottom line? It's winter in the Northwest, and gray, soggy weather comes with the territory, so keep your Goretex handy.
