Seattle Children's Cleared of Deficiencies
SEATTLE, WA
(KPLU) -
Children's Hospital in Seattle has no deficiencies in its safety procedures. That's the conclusion of a state health department investigation - after three serious incidents.
Seattle Children's Hospital found itself in an uncomfortable spotlight when a baby died after treatment there last month. Then, an adult was given the wrong medication at the hospital. And it came out that a toddler had suffered brain damage earlier in the year following surgery.
Seattle Children's was quick to admit publicly that it had made mistakes -- which is an unusual step for hospitals. The hospital also has changed a number of safety procedures to prevent medication errors. And it held an all-staff training day to make improvements across the board.
Now, the Washington Department of Health has concluded its investigation whether the hospital has adequate patient safety. It found no deficiencies. Separate investigations continue, though, of individual nurses and physicians.
