(N3) - The Northwest will be well represented at next month's Winter Olympic games in Vancouver. At least 19 athletes are scheduled to compete. KPLU's Doug Nadvornick has this roundup.

Full story
Perhaps the most well-known of the Northwest contingent is Federal Way, Washington native Apolo Ohno. The three-time Olympian will be joined on the short speed skating track by first-timer J.R. Celski, also of Federal Way.

Much of the region's group will be on skis. Two Idahoans are downhillers: Hailey Duke of Boise and Erik Patrick of Middleton. They'll be joined by Tommy Ford of Bend, Oregon and Will Brandenburg of Spokane. Patrick Deneen of Cle Elum, Washington will navigate the moguls. Idaho native Graham Watanabe and Danny Kass of Portland will snowboard for gold.

Skiing crosscountry will be Holly Brooks of Seattle and Torin Koos of Leavenworth, Washington and Morgan Arritola of Ketchum, Idaho. The biathlon, which includes cross country skiing and shooting, will have Boise's Sara Studebaker and Tonasket, Washington's Jeremy Teela.

Other Northwesterners will compete in the luge, bobsled, women's hockey and curling.

I'm Doug Nadvornick reporting.
