McGinn Sworn In as Seattle Mayor
Standing before a packed City Council chamber, McGinn repeated the oath administered by Miyo and Cian McGinn, two of his three children. Afterward, McGinn pledged to lead a more open, responsive city government.
"So I stand here today, having taken the oath of office, saying, 'I want to be your partner ... I want to be a partner with the region to help us build the place we believe in.'"
McGinn announced his first order of business is to cut spending. He's reducing the number of high-level city employees and reviewing all contracts for consulting services. The city is facing a $46 million-dollar budget deficit in 2011 on top of cuts already made for this year.
