(KPLU) - I saw her face, now I'm a believer. The catchy song by The Monkees playing at the Edgewater Hotel at Hutchison's election party might explain why she's leading overall with 37 percent of the vote. The former television news anchor is making her first run for office. She says her campaign heading into the general election will break away from dirty politics.

"The old way is divisive partisanship. It is bully politics. It is irresponsible spending. Higher taxes, elections bought and paid for by special interests."

Up the hill at Kells Irish Pub, the bar was packed with Dow Constantine supporters. The county councilman, who so far has secured 22 percent of the votes, says his focus over the next several weeks will be highlighting how different he is from his opponent. Constantine says Hutchison is out of step with most voters in King County.

"This is a county that voted for Barack Obama and John Kerrey 4 years earlier by substantial margins. We need to let the people know about the differences between me and my opponent. And when they do recognize them, they'll see that my views are in line."

Between now and the general election in November, both candidates say they'll be getting word out to voters about how they plan to improve the local economy and what they will do to pull the county out of a 56 million dollar deficit.
