(N3) - Business leaders in Washington are saying Boeing's decision to buy a key out-of-state supplier for its new 787 Dreamliner is a wake-up call. The acquisition raises the specter of Boeing opening a second 787 production plant in South Carolina instead of the Puget Sound area. John Stanton is chair of the Washington Business Roundtable. He tells KPLU news the state needs to rally around Boeing and be willing to provide the kinds of incentives that will persuade the company to keep jobs here. Stanton also blames Boeing's unions for creating an atmosphere of uncertainty that drives customers away. Overall, he says, Washington needs to make itself a more attractive place to do business. Boeing has declined to speculate on its future plans for 787 production. The company says its purchase of Vought Aircraft Industries is part of the company's efforts to improve efficiency and productivity. © Copyright 2012, N3
