(KPLU) -
Boeing is being sued by a flight attendant over toxic fumes on an airplane flight. The suit would force Boeing to redesign the air ventilation systems on many of its planes. The company contends the air inside cabins is safe.

The flight attendant, Terry Williams, works for American Airlines. She says when toxic engine fumes briefly leaked into the plane two years ago it changed her life for ever. She can no longer work.

Standing by her side at a news conference, her husband, Gary, was emotional as he described the migraines, chronic pain and memory loss that his wife now suffers from. "It's been tough," he said.

He and his wife want Boeing to change its ventilation systems so that toxic fumes from an engine would never be able to get into the cockpit or cabin. The suit contends that there are frequent "fume events" on planes.

A Boeing spokesman says the company can't comment on the specifics of the case, but does insist passengers have nothing to worry about.
