Coalition Plans to Put Sick Leave Proposal Before Voters
(2008-05-08)
(wosu) - A coalition that wants to require most
Ohio businesses to give their employees paid sick days says it wants to put the issue on the November ballot.

State lawmakers did not meet Thursday's deadline to act on the proposal.

Ohioans for Healthy Families gathered 154,693 valid signatures, which was enough to present the issue to lawmakers in January. Now the coalition will attempt to gather about 87,000 more valid signatures to place the issue directly on the ballot.

The Ohio Healthy Families Act would require Ohio businesses with 25 or more employees to provide them with at least seven paid sick days a year.

It is heavily supported by organized labor.
