Trillions of tiny neutrinos pass through our bodies every second. These shifty little specks are difficult to study and even harder to harness. Scientists have been analyzing their structure for years and in his new book, astrophysicist Ray Jayawardhana has documented these exploits. Neutrino Hunters: The Thrilling Chase for a Ghostly Particle to Unlock the Secrets of the Universe is the definitive account of the neutrino from discovery, to manipulation of its energy during WWII, to modern efforts to harness their unknown power. Neutrinos can answer the age-old questions surrounding the Big Bang, dark matter, why the sun shines, and even the very structure of our planet. New research facilities, including the IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole, have been tracking neutrinos and they’re swiftly closing in.
