Arturo Sandoval is the king of Latin jazz and one of the world’s most dynamic performers. The Cuban trumpet virtuoso is an eight-time Grammy Award winner, and nominated 17 times; he has also received six Billboard Awards and an Emmy Award winner. Sandoval is fluent in at least four musical languages. He can burn through an Afro-Cuban groove, tear up a bebop tune, soar over a Mozart concerto and sooth you with a luscious ballad; with equal power and grace. A founding member of the band Irakere, Sandoval was a protégé of the legendary jazz master Dizzy Gillespie. After defecting to the United States in 1990, his dramatic life story was made into a movie, “For Love or Country” starring Andy Garcia.

On his latest project Arturo Sandoval produces, directs and interprets one of the best Tango records in history: Tango Como Yo Te Siento (Tango, How I feel You). We have always heard of Arturo Sandoval the great Jazz musician, composer and pianist, but now, enchanting us with his grand musicality, he takes us to the Argentinean frontier. With this record he majestically interprets an incredible Tango record which highlights the most emblematic melodies as well as features phenomenal guests from this genre such as Maria Grana, Valeria Lynch, Julia Zenco, Fernando Soler, Guillermo Fernandez, Patricia Sosa, Raul Lavie, and the great accordionist, Nestor Marconi. Arturo, alongside these legends, makes this record a masterpiece filled with extraordinary interpretations and exquisite taste. It has always been a dream of Arturo’s to record a Tango album. This seed was planted from the time he was a very young boy in his birthplace of Cuba, he would see and hear his father listening and adoring this music. Sandoval took his passion to Buenos Aires and in conjunction with Mr. Jorge Fort, Argentinean musician and entrepreneur, they came up with the idea of making this record a reality, and adding to it a host of iconic Argentinian Musicians. Heaven!

Arturo’s versatility and musicianship transcends the stage to the world of music education. He is a tenured professor at Florida International University and he brings his expertise to innumerable educational institutes around the world including the NARAS program. Mr. Sandoval’s passion for music is evident in his amazing range – he’s known for his versatile mix of jazz, rock and traditional Cuban music. His seemingly limitless virtuosity also extends into the genre of classical music. He has worked with the most prestigious orchestras in the world and has composed his own Concerto for Trumpet & Orchestra which can be heard on Arturo Sandoval: The Classical Album.
