A ponderosa pine snag near Camp Navajo, west of Flagstaff. Standing dead trees, or snags, are considered an integral habitat component of cavity-nesting birds and other wildlife in the coniferous forests of the southwestern United States.
(knau) - Standing, dead trees are important wildlife habitat in the southwest. That's part of the reason why logging them after fires and bark beetle outbreaks has proved so controversial. © Copyright 2009, knau
